The Cabot Atrium served as the venue for coworkers, friends and family to applaud and recognize those BWH and BWPO staff who have dedicated increments of five to 45 years of service to the hospital.
Cheryl Locke, vice president, Human Resources, served as the event’s mistress of ceremonies, keeping the mood light and adding humor to the special occasion.
BWH President Gary L. Gottlieb, MD, MBA welcomed honorees and guests to the event. “This is an opportunity to celebrate the enormous and important contribution each of you has made to the unique culture of BWH. Every task you accomplish with excellence advances our mission of patient care, scientific discovery, teaching and commitment to the community,” he said.
“Tonight is a wonderful opportunity for hospital leadership, along with your colleagues, to verbalize our thanks to all of you. The measures you take to carry out the important mission of Brigham and Women’s Hospital each and everyday do not go unrecognized,” said Andy Whittemore, MD, chief medical officer.
Honorees were asked to come to the podium, where each was congratulated by both Gottlieb and Whittemore. Each honoree received a special gift based on their years of service.
In total, 508 employees were honored for five years of service; 115 for 10 years; 229 for 15; 85 for 20; 96 for 25; and 42 for 30 years. Thirteen employees were recognized for dedicating 35 years of their careers to BWH. These include Marlene Alexander, Olive Benjamin, Katherine Cazeault, Ronald Davis, Phebe Dyer, Deanne Griffin-Cochin, Sandra Lilleskare-Strindberg, Janice McGonagle, Maureen Read, Charles Stuppard, Eugena Ward and Olga Webb. In addition, Ann Oskarsdottir and Zoe Wheeler celebrated 40 years of service at BWH, while Margaret Cialdea was honored for 45 years of service.
